When are you ready for Yoga?

With our daily life becoming so stressful and busy, a lot of people hear one word as a solution - "Do Yoga, it will release your stress".

I once asked a few children who I taught a small session - what do you think is Yoga? One of them said "Exercise"! I was disappointed but not surprised. Unfortunately, this is how most of us see it!

"Yoga means union = union of your energies which the energies of the creator/cosmos. "

Yoga should be your way of life! As complicated as it may sound, as simple it is!

Indeed, when we begin, Yoga is a form of exercise. Our body has been kept idle from when we were around 16 years and just exercising our brains- till this point when the body cannot just one part of it working anymore.

So yes, its a wonderful exercise to begin with..

What next?

Not all can survive this exercise. And why? Let see..

If you ask someone- Do you love yourself? They would say - Of course Yes!

But ask them if they would spend 30 min to prove it every single day of your life? hmm initially yes, but most probably no after a few weeks...

So what do we really love about ourselves?

- We love our brains for helping us chase our dreams - but do we want to give it a 30 min break a day and just let it relax? Nooo, thats a waste of time we would say!!

- We love our stomach for digesting everything we love to eat - but do we want to feed it at regular intervals, on time, the right food? Noooo, thats so boring! As of now, my stomach can handle it all !

- We love our body when it is slim and fit - but curse the flab when it comes on - but do we have 30 min to stretch every morning to let those extra calories you fed it shed away? Nooooo, would love to but I am too busy for that.

We know that the body we love needs all that pampering, but we don't give that to it.. So what do we really love? We love our ego, our pride and achievements!

We would skip our meals for our meetings -as, our achievements are more important than ourself.

We would skip spending time with our dear ones and would instead post their pics on social media - as, our ego (read as the kick you get with the likes and comments) is more important than our family itself

We would skip our daily exercise or meditation and would instead spend that time grooming our hair and selecting a dress to wear - our pride is more important than our inner self.

Sad but true!

We always think that

- if we achieve "THAT THING" we will be happy

- if that girl/boy says YES to me , I will be happy

- if I lose 5 pounds, I will be happy

- if my son does well in these exams, I will be happy

Once you/they do, are you really happy???

SO.. when will you really be Happy?

-> The moment you realise that the temporary ambitious goals you have set for yourself will NOT lead to your happiness!!

The day you have achieved all that you wanted to and still REALISE that there is something missing.. that's the time you are ready for Yoga!

That's the time when you will truly want to invest time on yourself, to look beyond.. that's the time you will show the commitment and dedication that Yoga requires..

Yoga is not something that you do 1 hour a day, it is a way of living every day of your life.

You tune your body through the asanas, you tune your mind through pranayama and you ultimately tune your Energies through dhyana! An amalgamation of these three would tune the way you eat, think and live! Lets LIVE life and not get sucked into it!

Be aware of your breath through the day ;

- Love yourself, and everything around through the day ;

Your work (at home or outside) must be something you love and if you do not have an option, try to love what you do ;

- Place your ears on your loved one's stomach and hear the 24 hour digestion .. you will never dare to feed yourself or others the wrong food. Your body gives its everything to make you function, lets in turn care for what we give it too.

The Food you consume, makes your Body what it is

The Thoughts you have, make your Mind what it is

The Yoga you do and feel, make your Soul/Energies what it is

And all together You make YOURSELF what You are! The choice is yours!! Make yourself a Yogi !
